“Who decides what quality is? Different people have different ideas. It’s good to hear different points of view. There can be different levels of quality. Sometimes it’s about taste – you can have different taste within an art form, like contemporary dance. It’s hard for any sort of artist to please everyone all of the time. Why can’t people with learning disabilities have different tastes? Sometimes we need to know our audiences, but bear in mind that they might not like the work you create. We are still finding ways to talk about this and to agree to disagree.”

  1. I think sometimes learning disability arts can be put before an audience when it is not ready or really right for public viewing. Maybe it isn’t at that stage. When this happens I think it can have a negative effect and put people off seeing the great and unique stuff that’s out there. If learning disability arts is to attract the audience it deserves I think we have to be careful.
