Earlier today I was researching learning disabled artists who have ‘made it’ into the mainstream and came across Sarah Gordy’s website. She is a learning disabled actress who has been in BBC dramas such as Upstairs Downstairs. She also spoke at a TEDx event about being free from labels. I thought it was inspiring. What do you think?

I think it’s very empowering to be known as an ‘artist’ rather than someone with a learning disability or down’s syndrome, and it changes people’s perceptions about what people can achieve. it also works against preconceptions in the arts world in general, which could be seen as exclusive and only paying lip service to minority outsider artists.
